blog inspiration

I am painfully aware of how horribly negligent I have been with this blog, but in my defense, I’ve had a lot going on. I keep taking pictures of projects I’m working on with the intention of posting them here, and then I just never seem to get around to it because SOMETHING else always comes up.

One of the reasons I decided to start an artsy/fashiony/crafty blog was from looking around at others, including one of the most popular that tumblr hosts, What I Wore (I’m also HTML-challenged and cannot seem to include a link here, so please go visit it yourself. Tell ‘em I sent you).

Jessica Schroeder is a very fashionable gal with a very cool blog, and she’s able to make a living with it, which I think is just so impressive. It’s an eventual goal of my own (note to self, blogging more than once a month might help).

But in all seriousness, as I get some of my own crafty projects going, and especially as I look to start earning some income from those pursuits (via Etsy), I PROMISE I’ll be blogging more often. So if you’ve happened to stumble here randomly or if you’ve decided to follow me, one of these days I will make good on my promise. Ugh.

Until then, I just ask for your patience, please!

here’s looking at you, kid.

I am a big, big fan of wrapping gifts. So when the opportunity to select and wrap a gift for a friend arises, I choose very carefully and turn it into an art. Today (well, technically yesterday), I attended a baby shower for a good friend. See, here’s the thing. I let other people buy the “practical gifts” for weddings/baby showers/etc. I buy the fun things; in this instance, a pack of very cute burping bibs in pink and green, a purple hippo washcloth, and a pair of fabulous silver shoes with little star cutouts (none of which are IMpractical, to be sure). Then it comes time to tie the whole thing together with a beautiful wrapping paper from one of my favorite stationery lines, Paperchase (trust me, I’ll write more about Paperchase in the days to come). This time, I selected a gorgeous bird print in shades of pink, purple and green (I still have one sheet left; I haven’t decided yet what I’m going to do with it, perhaps something decorative). The finished product, a neatly wrapped, pretty little gift, tied with sheer purple and green polka-dotted ribbon. The perfect way to welcome a little girl into the world. :-)

The card reads “Congratulations on your brand new Cutie Patootie”. Awwww.

good things are on the way.

I am actually going to get this blog going, very, very soon. I have been working on several projects, several plans, and things are moving along quite well; it’s just been a busy couple of weeks and I’ve had nary a spare moment to devote to the creative blogging process.

My first, personal project is finally complete, after what feels like tedious weeks of working on it. I’ll take some pictures and post them here, likely over the weekend; it’s a garment of sorts and I’m in no state tonight to be modeling this gorgeous item. It’s all set to inspire me to turn an innate craftiness into something profitable, not that that’s my only goal, of course, but the point is, good things are in the works.

If you’ve already checked out this blog and are eagerly anticipating what’s to come, please, please stay tuned!

it doesn’t have to match…

It has to go. One of my favorite philosophies from Stacy and Clinton of TLC’s “What Not to Wear”, and a principle I apply in every applicable situation in my life.

So who am I? I’m not a fashion designer, stylist, or an expert of any sort. I’m not a tall, slender, statuesque model-type whose clothes always fall perfectly. In fact, I’m short, slightly plump and sometimes my fashion choices are based purely on how much I feel like squeezing my body into clothes.

However, I have in recent years developed a real taste for fashion and my own personal style, and I thought this might be a fun way to explore it. I’m also beginning to get more creative with making things of my own, and I’d like a place to showcase them. I don’t plan to make this strictly a fashion blog; I’ll include places, objects, brands, people I love, links I enjoy, and perhaps a few of my own crafting and fashion adventures along the way. Hope you enjoy the ride.
